Full job description
Location: Noida, India (On-Site)
Position: Full-Time, Supporting Attorney (U.S. Law Focus)
Experience Level: Senior (5+ years of legal experience)
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Supporting Attorney to join our team in Noida, India,
and assist with U.S. law matters. The ideal candidate will be an Indian-qualified lawyer
with substantial exposure to U.S. law (with a strong preference for experience in
Washington State law). This role involves providing comprehensive legal support in
areas of healthcare law, captive insurance compliance, and intellectual property
(trademark) issues. You will work closely (remotely) with a U.S.-based attorney,
conducting legal research, managing discovery materials, and coordinating on cases
and compliance projects. This position requires excellent English communication skills
for seamless coordination with our U.S. legal team.
Key Responsibilities
- Legal Research: Conduct thorough legal research on U.S. and Washington
State statutes/regulations to support case strategies and compliance efforts.
Prepare concise memoranda and updates on relevant U.S. legal developments.
- Discovery Support: Assist with the discovery process for U.S. litigation cases –
organize, index, and summarize discovery materials (including electronic
documents and correspondence) to ensure our legal team can quickly access
key information. Help maintain a well-structured repository of evidence and legal
documents for ongoing cases.
- Healthcare Law & HIPAA Compliance: Provide support on healthcare law
matters, with emphasis on HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act) compliance. Ensure that all handling of Protected Health
Information (PHI) and related legal documents meets HIPAA privacy and security
requirements. Assist in drafting and reviewing policies or agreements for
compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Captive Insurance Compliance: Support the compliance management for a
U.S.-based captive insurance company. This includes monitoring regulatory
requirements, helping prepare filings or reports to U.S. insurance regulators, and
maintaining documentation to ensure the captive insurance entity meets all
applicable state and federal compliance standards.
- Intellectual Property (Trademark) Assistance: Manage and assist with U.S.
trademark matters. This involves preparing trademark related filings for the
USPTO, maintaining a docket of filing deadlines, and organizing the company’s
trademark portfolio. You will also help monitor potential trademark infringements
and support attorneys in trademark infringement litigation by gathering evidence,
researching precedents, and coordinating with U.S. IP counsel.
Remote Coordination: Act as a reliable point of contact for the U.S.-based
attorney and legal team. Coordinate across time zones to align on project
timelines, case updates, and deliverables. Participate in regular calls or video
conferences to discuss case strategy, report on progress, and ensure nothing
falls through the cracks. Maintain clear and prompt communication via email and
collaboration tools, demonstrating excellent English communication skills in all
interactions.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education & License: Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B.) from an accredited
institution. Licensed to practice law in India and in good standing with the Bar
Council. A Master’s in Law (LL.M.) or any U.S. law certification is a plus.
- Legal Experience: Minimum 5 years of post-qualification legal experience.
This should include significant exposure to U.S. legal matters or working with
U.S. clients. Prior experience in an international law firm, Legal Process
Outsourcing (LPO), or supporting U.S. attorneys is highly desirable.
- U.S. Law Knowledge: Strong knowledge of U.S. law and legal procedures.
Familiarity with Washington State law is highly preferred, as many matters will
pertain to Washington regulations or courts. Ability to quickly research and
understand state-specific statutes (especially Washington’s) is important.
- Healthcare Law & HIPAA: Proven experience or training in healthcare law, with
a focus on HIPAA compliance. Comfortable interpreting and applying HIPAA
Privacy and Security Rules in policies, agreements, and incident responses.
Experience dealing with patient data privacy, healthcare regulations, or
hospital/clinical legal matters will be an advantage.
- Insurance Compliance: Experience supporting legal or compliance functions for
an insurance company, ideally a captive insurance entity or similar. Knowledge of
insurance regulatory frameworks in the U.S., state insurance commission
requirements, and corporate governance for insurance companies is a plus.
- Intellectual Property: Solid background in intellectual property law, especially
trademark law. Experience with trademark registration processes, responding to
USPTO actions, and trademark infringement litigation support (e.g. evidence
collection, coordinating with investigators, or preparing case chronologies).
Familiarity with managing a portfolio of trademarks or working with IP
management software is beneficial.
- Research & Discovery Skills: Exceptional legal research skills, with proficiency
in using legal research tools/databases for U.S. law. Hands-on experience with
organizing and reviewing discovery materials or large document sets for
litigation. Ability to summarize findings clearly and manage documentation with
attention to detail.
- Communication & Coordination: Excellent English communication skills
(written and verbal) are mandatory. Proven ability to draft polished legal
documents, reports, and professional correspondence. Comfortable collaborating
remotely with U.S. colleagues – this includes being proactive in communications,
culturally aware, and adept at using video conferencing and project management
tools.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and project management abilities.
Capable of juggling multiple tasks and deadlines, prioritizing work effectively, and
maintaining meticulous records. A high level of professionalism, integrity, and
reliability is expected, given the sensitive nature of legal work.
- Teamwork; Adaptability: A collaborative mindset to work as part of an
international team. Flexible and adaptable to shifting priorities or urgent requests.
Able to work independently with minimal supervision while knowing when to seek
guidance or clarification from the U.S. attorney.
Role Expectations
In this role, you are expected to function as an extension of the U.S. legal team. You will
not be providing independent legal advice to clients in the U.S.; instead, you will support
a licensed U.S. attorney by performing critical background work, research, and
preparatory analysis. Attention to detail, confidentiality, and a proactive approach to
problem-solving are key expectations. The role may occasionally require adjusting your
work hours to overlap with U.S. business hours for real-time collaboration. By excelling
in this position, you will contribute significantly to the efficiency of our legal operations
and help ensure compliance and successful outcomes in complex legal matters
spanning healthcare, insurance, and intellectual property domains.
