Mastercard is hiring a Specialist – Privacy and Data Protection to join its Global Business Solutions Center (GBSC) Legal Services team in Pune. This role offers an exciting opportunity for legal professionals with experience in privacy and data protection law to work on global matters involving vendor contracts, data protection agreements, and privacy compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
About the Role
The selected candidate will be part of a team of privacy legal specialists supporting Mastercard’s global business operations. The role involves drafting, reviewing, and negotiating privacy-related contractual provisions, advising stakeholders on data protection requirements, and ensuring compliance with global privacy laws and Mastercard policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate data privacy and data protection provisions in supplier agreements, SaaS agreements, pilot agreements, statements of work, and proof-of-concept agreements.
- Review and negotiate standalone data protection agreements and data provider agreements with vendors and third parties.
- Apply knowledge of global privacy laws, including GDPR and CCPA, to support business operations.
- Support third-party privacy compliance and risk mitigation initiatives.
- Collaborate with business teams, sourcing teams, privacy counsel, and external stakeholders.
- Identify, assess, and escalate privacy-related risks and non-standard contractual positions.
- Maintain documentation of negotiations, approvals, and contractual decisions for audit and governance purposes.
- Deliver high-quality legal support while meeting defined service levels and timelines.
- Contribute to process improvement and operational excellence initiatives.
Eligibility Criteria
Mandatory Qualifications
- 3-year LL.B. (after graduation) or 5-year integrated LL.B. from a recognized university.
- Eligible to practice law in the hiring location.
- Prior experience in privacy and data protection law.
- Minimum 5–6 years of experience in contract review, contract negotiation, stakeholder management, and project management.
Preferred Qualifications
- CIPP/E, CIPP/US, or other IAPP certifications.
- Familiarity with privacy laws across the U.S., Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific regions.
- Experience in the financial services, payments, technology, cybersecurity, fraud prevention, or identity management sectors.
- Experience handling multi-jurisdictional privacy matters.
