Law, the discipline and profession concerned with the customs, practices, and rule of conduct of a community. The person who practices the law is known as lawyer.
A lawyer must have posses some skills to be a successful lawyer in the eyes of society. No one can perfectly count the skills of a lawyer; some of the most important skills that are required to be a lawyer are given below:-

- Once a learner always a learner: – The field of law is very wide no one can learn everything in one go. Successful lawyers are successful at lifelong learning. No lawyer should assume their education is over at any point in their carrier. That is why it is said that who is a great learner is always a great achiever. So, for this a lawyer must always be a learner to achieve knowledge in his life.
- Communication skill: – a lawyer must possess a good communication skill both orally and written, to argue with more persuasiveness before the honorable judge and to have a great conversations with his clients to give the clients a believe in him that he can help them out from their problem and a have a written communication skill to draft the pleadings of a client to express client’s problem.
- Self confidence: – confidence is a state of being clear in mind to conquer any situation gracefully. A lawyer must have believe in himself that he can conquer any situation of his field of law, and he can present himself gracefully in front of the honorable court.
- An analyzer: – A lawyer must be able to analyze the events by using the critical method of analyzing, the ability to draw reasonable, logical conclusion from limited information is essential for a lawyer.
- A listener: – a lawyer must be a god listener so he can learn every single word that someone utter in the way of knowledge and fact. If he is a listener he can apply those facts and knowledge (which he learned from listening) in any event of his life and his carrier.
- Hard worker: – one must be very hard worker to fulfill his goals as a lawyer. Nothing will happen in this world without working on it, only hard workers are the achievers. So a lawyer must be a hard worker.
- Wit: – Lawyers have to deal with a variety of serious and important cases affecting lives and liberties of the peoples. So constant clash between the lawyer and his opponent is constant, they gets strain of tension. Occasional wit and humor, provoking a smile of laughter will help them to ease the tension and refresh themselves to sharpen their brain for the effective discharge of the duties.
- Fellowship: – In legal profession, one lawyer fights with another lawyer for justice. There may be contradiction in their contention relating to the matter. But that shall never affect the fellowship/ fraternity of the lawyers, outside the courts they are belongs to the same community of lawyers so a lawyer must not forget his fellowship.
- Judgment: – it means the ability to come to a sensible conclusion and make wise decisions at the relevant time in proper way. A lawyer must always anticipate all the possible moves of the other side and must developed the necessary presence of mind, alertness and tact to cope with any situation of difficulty that may arise in the matter.
A good lawyer must have the quality to understand and analyzing the matter of the client, he must possess the quality of leadership and management through these above noted skills he may achieve a great carrier as a lawyer and can make a good name in the field of law.
