An Integral part of Divyang: Knowledge

This article is written by Anjali Sharma, LLB 3RD Year, Lloyd School of law during her internship at LeDroid India.

First of all we will find out that who is Divyang (Disable) before knowing that, that how the knowledge is an integral part of an Divyang. Let us know that how the law define this. Under section 2(S) defines that “person with disability” means a person with long term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairment which, in interaction with barriers, hinders his full and effective participation in society equally with others.

In a simple manner we define them as an incomplete person with some drawbacks. And the question is, do those shortcomings detract from their overall vision or do they help them become more capable than the rest of their society.  These people do their own work, move ahead overcoming many challenges and keep the fight to keep that section of the society behind which is not moving ahead even after becoming normal and on the strength of their own knowledge these people make themselves so powerful that it is not possible for any ordinary person to praise them. They know that how to face upcoming challenges and the people who are calling themself as a normal person of the society needs to learn from them.

Despite lack of facilities, differently-abled people continue to increase their knowledge and develop themselves on the basis of that knowledge. At the same time, we need to understand what are the challenges that come in their way. For example :-

Awareness Deficit: Low awareness of legal entitlements among persons with disabilities, employers, and public authorities.

Under-Resourced Institutions: Many Commissioners, grievance officers, and enforcement bodies lack manpower and funding.

Infrastructure Lags: Public and private spaces, especially older buildings and rural areas remain largely inaccessible.

Certification Bottlenecks: Disability certification processes remain slow, inconsistent across states, and not user-friendly.

Enforcement Weakness: Legal safeguards exist, but implementation, especially in private sector compliance and digital access is inconsistent etc.

According to our legal system we have PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES ACT,2016. But the question is that how many Divyang people were aware about it? We have to spread awareness among them regarding this this act, not only between them but also in hole society so that many people will able to support them. This has to done not for the charity but this has to be done because knowing of our legal rights is our duty towards the nation and humanity as well. We are free citizens of a free country. And we all have equal rights as per the constitution. It is our duty to take everyone along. If we live unitedly in a country despite so many differences, then why should we leave the disable people behind. It is our duty to take them along and move ahead, learn something from them and teach them something. And this can be done only by spreading knowledge. We all must have heard that educating a woman is like educating the whole family, so if these disable people are also a part of the family, then why are they being deprived of knowledge? And if they are, then it clearly means that our lives are being left behind.

Why are we forgetting that how many times and in how many places have the name of our nation been raised by the differently abled people on the basis of their own art and knowledge, be it a game or any competition related to knowledge. Many time they can go so far ahead by making their own skills their strength and at the same time can brighten the image of the nation, then why can’t other differently abled people do it?

It all depends on only one thing that how much they make themselves knowledgeable. With the power of their will, every possible effort can be made successful.  What is needed is only inner strength and that inner strength can only be gained through knowledge. Knowledge of any sport, knowledge of any culture, knowledge of any skill, knowledge of any field. And even 1% effort made by common people to gain that knowledge to them can change someone’s hole life. The brightness of knowledge gives light to everyone so why should differently abled people be deprived of the brightness of that knowledge? Why?

We need to understand that (gyan) knowledge is an integral part of everyone’s life. Which can help people to progress or move forward their life in a positive manner. Knowledge is the only way to get rid from any kind of problem whether is related to personal or whether it is related to public. In simple words, having a storehouse of knowledge is more important than having a storehouse of wealth, with the help of which wealth, name and fame come to man automatically. Knowledge is an important aspect of human life, by increasing which man can develop his self comprehensively.
